The Ring of Hazrat Omar (Death is Enough Advice)
"Kefa Bil Mevt Vaizan" (Death is Enough as Advice) is reported to have been written on the ring of Hz. Omar (RA), the second Caliph of Islam, who went down in history with his justice.
When the second Caliph of Islam, Hz. Omar (ra), asked for advice from our Prophet, Hz. Muhammad (pbuh), saying, "Give us advice, O Messenger of Allah," our Prophet gave the advice, "Kefa Bil Mevt Vaizan", meaning "Death is enough advice for a person."
Umar (ra) had this advice from the Prophet (pbuh) inscribed on his ring and carried it constantly. It is said that, not content with this, Umar (ra) appointed someone to tell his cat every morning, "Umar, you have aged another day."
IF YOU WANT ADVICE, DEATH IS ENOUGH
Death and life are in the hands of God (swt). Death is as real as life itself. Indeed, the existence of life necessitates death. Death is the soul's departure from the body, or the human migration from this world to the afterlife. On the surface, death is terrifying. How can parting with loved ones not be terrifying? So, is there no cure for this terrifying event, death?
For philosophical and humanistic ideologies that fail to view the issue through the lens of faith, death has no remedy. For them, death is annihilation, an end, an extinction, a disintegration, a defection, a decline!
And what is death for a believer?
There is no death for a believer; death is merely a change of place. When we look at the Quran and the Sunnah, we see that the true face of death is only possible by looking at life, death and the afterlife with the eye of faith.
Death is the triumph of spirituality over matter, the transition from worldly exile to the true homeland, and the mortal human being's final departure from the mortal journey of life. Death is a discharge note for being freed from the burdens of life and departing for the afterlife.
Death is the transition from the metaphorical beloved to the real beloved, the transition from the mortal, temporary life to the eternal life, a place of transformation, a flight from the dungeon to the gardens of heaven.
